The Liturgical Music Committee of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Singapore (LMC) was formed as a pro-tempore committee over ten years ago by the late composer and liturgical musician Timothy Chong with the support and spiritual guidance of Rev Frs Thomas O'Neill SJ and Nicholas Ho. It produced a periodical handout on liturgical music, Amen, which became its trademark icon during the mid-nineties.

LMC activity petered out towards the end of decade, but efforts were made to revive it upon Timothy's passing in 1999. Through the efforts of Fr Ho, another pro-tempore committee was set up with Aileen Yeo as chairperson and Br Michael Broughton FSC as spiritual director.

The LMC held church music workshops and seminars, including a series by the Catholic liturgical composer Christopher Walker. The committee also featured in the planning and execution of the ordination ceremony of the Most Reverend Archbishop Nicholas Chia, Archbishop of Singapore in 2001. They later organised a three-day series of workshops by the American liturgical music composer, Marty Haugen, in August 2002.

Another set of Advent workshops featured guest speaker Rev Fr Anscar Chupungco, a member of the advisory committee of the International Commission of English in the Liturgy (ICEL) and former President of the Pontifical Liturgical Institute.

Presently under the leadership of Robert Loh and Rev Fr John Joseph Fenelon, the LMC brings together choirs from various parishes for an annual Eucharistic Celebration on the feast of Saint Cecilia, patron saint of church music. The LMC also held a workshop led by Rev Frs Fenelon and Ignatius Yeo to familiarise participants with the Vatican documents Musicam Sacram and Sacrosanctum Concilium, and the General Instruction of the Roman Missal.

In 2006, the LMC held its first workshops on Gregorian chant and organ accompaniment, and its programme has subsequently expanded to include material for cantors and choral directors.

Support and prayers from all quarters are, needless to say, vital to the LMC in fulfilling its intended role in the liturgical life of the local Church. With a broader base of participation and support, the LMC has ambitious plans to ensure that an enduring and effective liturgical music organisation will be come into being for the service of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Singapore.

And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven.

And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven:
and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven.

Matthew:16-18
