In the Apostolic Letter at the beginning of the New Millennium, Novo Millennio Ineunte to the bishops, clergy and the lay faithful at the close of the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000, His Holiness, Pope John Paul II says, "The universal call to holiness is the duty of all Christians faithful of whatever state or rank. The ways of holiness are many, according to the vocation of each individual and the time has come to re-propose wholeheartedly to everyone this high standard of ordinary Christian living. It is also clear that the paths to holiness are personal and call for a genuine "training in holiness" adapted to people's needs."
