              Our Lady of Fatima

The Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, appeared six times to three shepherd children near the town of Fatima, Portugal between May 13th and October 13th 1917. Appearing to the children, the Blessed Virgin told them that She had been sent by God with a message for every man, woman and child living in our century. Coming at a time when civilization was torn asunder by war and bloody violence, She promised that Heaven would grant peace to the entire world if Her requests for prayer, reparation and consecration were heard and obeyed.

In 1935, Bishop Dom Jose Coasta Nunes who succeeded Bishop de Azevedo suggested that a statue of Our Lady of Fatima be placed in the niche of the transcept beside the alatar of Our Lady of Lourdes in St Joseph's church. Simultaneously, devotions in honour of Our Lady of Fatima begun in the Church.

Since 1948 till to date, Our Lady of Fatima devotion has been carried out on the 13th of every month with a procession after the evening Mass. On the 13th of May and the 13th of October, a special crowning ceremony of our Lady statue is also carried out during the Mass and followed by a Candle Light procession in the church compund.

On 13 May 1948, the statue of Our Lady of Fatima was solemnly crowned with a gold crown and the ceremony was commemorated with a procession through the streets of Singapore.
